Let’s not be fooled. Everybody needs a little Sunshine in their life and for the most part she is present more than you think.
Whenever Heard It All Before drops during your throwback lunch hour on your radio or at the club you are guaranteed to get a show from anyone standing within a few feet of you. Although Sunshine killed the charts and will forever go down in history for ‘reading the hell’ out of her deadbeat *$@#*, the success of the song has somewhat overshadowed what else she has brought to the table!
With three studio albums under her belt, music lovers may have simply missed the projects or was unaware of the soul food she was serving due to what new talent was being heavily marketed at the time. Of course we at MCP, want to direct you to your nearest streaming service or dust off your CD’s and relive some of our favorites!
He Said, She Said (Your Woman – 2001)
What do you do when you have too many people in your relationship? You speak on it. Sunshine sat her man down and let him know directly that she is the ride or die that he has come to love regardless of who is out in the streets bored and running their mouth with their miserable asses.
Lunch Or Dinner (Your Woman – 2001)
Most listeners are aware that Sunshine is about kickin dudes to the curb for one reason or another, but the songstress had to flip the script on this track which was a definite highlight from her debut album. No need to wait around and wait for him to step up… How do you feel about a strong and confident woman that makes the first move?
Something I Wanna Give You (Sunshine at Midnight – 2007)
With her sophomore project, Sunshine led off with Something I Wanna Give You with horns blaring and drums knockin! If there was ever a time to hold her tongue, this one was not it. In your face and straight to the point, the singer let it be known that she has no time for games and the door is right in front of you. Your lost playa!
My Whole Life (Sunshine at Midnight – 2007)
Sunshine spoke on devoting most of her life to a worthless lover. For seven good years she dealt with infidelity and lack of respect, but because she ‘loved’ him she stayed. It’s amazing what she lost while in the relationship, but she found the strength to pick up and move on!
Wear the Crown (Sunshine at Midnight – 2007)
The classic tale of love at first sight… even at The Waffle House. She is definitely down to work on this new love where she feels like a Queen all before their first kiss.
Force Of Nature (Sunshine at Midnight – 2007)
One of the highlights from the sophomore album without question. What happens when you fall in love with the type of person that no one, let alone you, thought you would end up with? You can’t stop what is meant to be. Sunshine sang effortlessly about deep love and dirty drawes. You gotta love her for that!
Say Something (The Sun Shines Again – 2010)
Where she played the aggressor on Lunch Or Dinner, Sunshine played it cool on this track lifted from her third album. She knew her game was on and she challenged the one to approach her and get to know her before she rolled out with her girls.
2nd Fiddle (The Sun Shines Again – 2010)
Sunshine is always giving lessons in love and with this track the bottom line was to put her first. She won’t stand for being second place to anyone or anything.
Lie To Kick It (The Sun Shines Again – 2010)
Another lesson in love and relationships is honesty. No need for lies and if that is what you plan to do you better make sure you have your game on lock.
Nervous (The Sun Shines Again – 2010)
Funny how confident and secure Sunshine is when she is kicking her dude out, but to watch her new relationships unfold initially is a bit different. So many emotions and thoughts to deal with. How will things turn out? Will she win this time?
With artists like Mary J. Blige and Keyshia Cole speaking on pain so often, it’s almost hard to believe another artist can do it as well as them. Trust and believe Sunshine has seen some darkness in her life, but at the end of the day she always grows stronger and shines a bit better once she gets through it! Be sure to revisit her discography!
