Alicia Keys – As I Am

Alicia Keys is one of those artists who like to make simple things complicated. Simple words and simple instrumentals to help the fans through complicated situations. She returns with her third studio album As I Am, and shows that this time around she can safely stray away from her expected style and manage to keep her consistency intact.

The jumpy and upbeat Go Ahead is Alicia’s usual aggressive brush off. She lets her significant other know that she will be fine without him. However, she flips it on the lead single No One and the follow-up Like You'll Never See Me Again. Although she sounds like Tina Turner on one record and Prince on the other, she is living in the moment and wants the love to continue to soar. One of the album strongest records is Lesson Learned featuring John Mayer. I never would have thought to pair these two, but it was genius. They compliment one another very well. Other notables are Wreckless Love, That's The Thing About Love and Teenage Love Affair.

Alicia is one of those very radio friendly artists so expect for her to have another big year. Some songs may be growers, but for the most part the songs that you fall in love with will overshadow the ones you’re hesitating on. Rating 3.5 of 5 stars.
