Janet Jackson: Discipline

Janet Jackson returns with her new disc, Discipline. After her last two releases, there are many waiting to see if she can reclaim her crown. I’m happy to say that Janet has taken it back to the way we like her…vulnerable, cocky, erotic and fun.

The album leads off with the upbeat, dance record Feedback where she tells her man to strum her like a guitar until he blows her amplifier. That’s some word play for that a**. Janet is known for nice imagery and word play. Luv is one of my favorite records. She compares falling in love to something like a car wreck. Although she’s been down this road before, she ends up getting hit. She complains that she should’ve stopped at the red light. Another clever analogy comes in the form of Rollercoaster. It’s an upbeat number that describes a current situation with love and emotions. Another hot track shows Janet in a vulnerable state and she realizes she didn’t realize a good thing when she had it. Greatest X is soft, subtle and sweet. It’s funny how I like her slower records more and more as time passes. This one is definitely for the books. And for the fans who love when Janet gets…how can I say….nasty. The title track is definitely one of the best tracks on the album. I like to compare it to the Rope Burn’s and Would You Mind type records she likes to deliver on every album. She’s been a bad girl…spank her. She can be just as playful and nasty on The 1 and Curtains.

This album is like days of old simply because Janet comes off like she has not only regained confidence, but like she really has nothing else to prove. We got the interludes. We got the dance tracks. We got the sex records. We got Janet. Pick it up!
