Tupac – The Best of Tupac
Tupac will always be known as one of the greatest Hip-Hop artist to ever record. He was a passionate forceful storyteller that lived many different lives; he was a musician, a writer, actor, but most of all, he recognized that people (not just his fans) were watching him. He knew when to be inspirational, when to be dark, when to be introspective; his self-awareness was almost eerie at points. There have been a lot of records created after his death that try to sum up everything he was. No collection though has done a better job then the 2007 Interscope Records double disk release; The Best Of Tupac.
Disk One kicks off with the party anthem featuring Snoop Dogg, 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted , then goes to California Love featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman. Tupac begins his verse with a line known by Tupac fans everywhere, “Out on bail/fresh out of jail/California dreamin…” The sing along classic I Ain’t Mad At Cha, is included where a heartfelt Tupac talks about having no hard feelings for those that have taken a different path in life. Tupac delivers the fire he is known for on the fierce Hail Mary where he chants, “Come with me/Hail Mary/Run quick see/what do we have here now?/do you wanna ride or die?…” Tupac seems to speak to himself as the first disk rounds out with Resist The Temptation featuring the beautifully eccentric Amel Larriuex, beginning with the almost self introspective, “Resist the temptation of the beast…”
The second disk begins with the telling Definition of A Thug Nigga, strolls to the current hot topic of music degrading women Never Call You Bitch Again and goes on to include the poignant Thug Mansion.
Needle Meter
For anyone who says they are a Tupac fan, this release is the definitive Tupac collection to have. It takes his career and brings it together in the songs he is best known for and the songs his fans know and respect the most. Tupac was a story teller, and this collection in a sense tells the story of his life. Though it is hard to sum up the life and times of one of the greatest in music I two disks, this release is a damn great start. Five Needles— A collectors Item!
