Trey Songz - Trey Day

After letting us know he had to make it on his debut album, Trey Songz continues his journey on his sophomore album, Trey Day. With Bryan-Michael Cox, Dre and Vidal, Troy Taylor, and Johnta Austin in tow, Trey has seemed to pool all of the strengths from his first album and use them to help deliver some of the most promising tracks on this album.

Although erotic and mannish on several album cuts, Trey still manages to deliver the smooth laidback vocals that we've come to expect. Last Time hits hard as Trey voices his indecisiveness over cutting it off with his lover in order to remain faithful to his woman. Store Run tells an all too familiar story many men who make that late night run to the corner store in order to satisfy that late night urge can relate to. Sex For Yo Stereo earns points for its creative wordplay as does the R. Kelly-produced Grub On, although it can't help but be said that it's the one track on the album that could've been done without simply because it sounds a little too "Pied Piper" for its own good. And current single Can't Help But Wait may remind many of a Ne-Yo record but place the blame on Stargate's production. Trey easily makes the song his own and one of the album's most memorable tracks.

While he may not have made it all the way just yet, Trey is definitely grinding just as hard to get there and taking a ride with him on his grind this go-round is definitely a ride worth taking. Rating 3.5 of 5 stars
